Memory of Ord

Craft adventures worthy of rememberance.

A free community tool for Directors to graph campaigns. Map scenes, encounters, and decisions that grows with the story.

Your story structure, visualized

Scenes, combats, montages. Every beat and detail as a node. Each carries the details that matter to your table: default options drawn from the Draw Steel core books, fully extensible, and visually customizable.

  • Prep combats, negotiations, locations, named individuals, or any detail that matters.
  • Position related concepts together, and use edges to map a flow through the content.
  • Creatures, Trinkets, Treasures, and Titles from the core books, ready to go.
  • Extend beyond the defaults: define your own fields and tags for what matters to you.

From tonight's session to the full campaign

Every node can be a container for deeper content nested inside it. Compose quests from individual scenes, combine those into adventures, and layer them together in a full campaign. Work top-down for structure or bottom-up from inspiration. Zoom into the details for your next session; zoom out to see the threads coming together and identify connective gaps.

  • No forced hierarchy. Stay flat for a one-shot or go deep for a web of campaign arcs.
  • Expand a node to dive into details, or collapse it to focus on larger structure.
  • Design your cool ideas and future arcs in as much or as little detail as you like; revisit them later to tie them into your story at large.

Remix, borrow, and share

This game is social and fun, and designing for it should be too! Pull in community content to fill gaps, mold it as needed, and share your own work when it's ready.

  • Easily save off any node (and its subgraph) as its own reusable module.
  • Drag-n-drop created content to include it in larger scopes, e.g., entire adventures into your new campaign.
  • Export snapshots as an image. Print it out for session binders, or share it by posting in any Draw Steel community space.

Every Director runs their game differently

Memory of Ord is a tool that adapts to your style, not the other way around.

Running published content

Exploring an adventure graph helps internalize its structure: how clues connect, where named NPCs thread through the story, what foreshadowing pays off and when. Memory of Ord is a great tool to either build it yourself or explore what others have shared.

Building from scratch

Start wherever your inspiration strikes. A great encounter, a hook, a villain's motivation. Jump between acts as creativity drives you. The graph helps visualize not only what you have done, but also what is missing or thin on clues and hooks.

The campaign sandbox

Seed pre-built adventures into a campaign, then focus on the the glue between them. Keep the elements you like, while tossing what you don't. Visualize how they connect, and connect character details as hooks to the content you want to encourage.

Support the project

Memory of Ord is a free community tool; crafting, remixing, and sharing your designs will not be paywalled. It doesn't rely on ads nor sell your data. There are operational costs though, so any support is appreciated and helps keep the lights on.

If you have the means and the inclination for it, you can support development here.

Built for Draw Steel

Memory of Ord is a free community tool for Draw Steel. Its systems, monsters, and gameplay loops are baked into the tool's terminology, defaults, and features.

  • Terminology mirrors official Draw Steel rulebooks and adventures
  • Prepopulated selection options for Creatures and Rewards (Trinkets, Treasures, Titles) are also from the core books
  • Although this tool may serve other systems well, adding native support for them would detract from the experience intended for the Draw Steel community
